Does the ground wire in car audio systems have to be as big as the power wire?
It seems like I see a lot of kits where the ground wire is smaller than the power wire. On the other hand, one of the "big 3" in car audio is beefing up the ground wire on your alternator.

ground should be the biggest you can make it, a perfect ground is very crucial, many problems can result in not having a good enough ground or grounds. you should keep the ground 3ft long or LESS, not longer.

In most amp kits, the ground wire is shorter than the power wire, because it doesn’t have to run as far. The thickness of the wire is usually the same, though. That’s the way it should be.

The ground wire should be the same size as the incoming power wire. If it is smaller, that is your limit and you just as well run the smaller power wire.
The power and ground should be the same gauge
